Another Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Leak Details the Display Specifications, A Leap Forward for Foldable Phones?

The first Galaxy Fold failed in part because of its buggy secondary display. Its sequel, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 would evidently rectify that and the details for this display have now been leaked. The leak comes from CEO of the ‘Display Chain Consultants’, Ross Young, who reports the alleged specifications for this upcoming dual-display.

As per Mr. Young, the Galaxy Fold 2 is codenamed ‘Project Champ’ and its external display measures 6.23 inches. Earlier rumors had pointed to the possibility of an under-the-display front camera, but Samsung had to axe that feature on account of a tight shipment schedule. Instead, the company opted for a punch-hole that sits in the top-center.

The front panel uses the Apple-developed LPTS backplane technology with an OLED screen. It produces a 2,267 x 819 resolution at a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Its yet to see how Samsung prices the successor of Galaxy fold but what we have to keep in mind that foldable display technology is still quite expensive.

The main display is a flexible Dynamic AMOLED display with a diagonal size of 7.59 inches. Unlike the fragile panel that the original Fold featured, the Fold 2 will make use of ultra-thin glass (UTG) — the same kind that the Z Flip debuted with.

It produces a 2213 x 1689 resolution at a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a 367ppi density. It also mimics the punch-hole design you see upfront.

To take advantage of the tablet-like form factor the phone presents when unfolded, Samsung is also introducing an S-pen with this iteration. Aside from protecting the screen from scratches, the ultra-thin glass also makes the display compatible with a stylus.

If our readers recall, XDA Developers reported that the Galaxy Fold 2 will offer support for 4G connectivity, thanks to the Snapdragon 865 (or an SD865+) chipset that powers it. It’s speculated to run on a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging.

If these reports pan out, the Fold 2 is shaping up to be a true flagship, rather than a just a novel ‘design-first’ phone not intended to be a daily driver but as far as the Samsung price is concerned, it still going to be at the very far right end of the scale.
