The iPhone 15 Pro Max charging speed is a controversial topic. Challenging common perceptions, the handset underwent a test, revealing unexpected results. Apple claims the device supports 20W charging speeds, but a recent scientific test suggests it might be capable of even faster charging.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 4,441mAh battery. The official 20W charging brick is standard and recommended by Apple. However, the test, conducted using a 30W charger with a USB-C output and Apple's official USB-C cable, showcased surprising outcomes.
From a 1% charge, the initial 17 minutes of the test demonstrated a charging rate of nearly 26 watts, exceeding Apple's claimed maximum speed. The results suggest that a charger with a higher wattage, such as 30W, could provide faster and more efficient charging.
The charging speed gradually drops to about 21W after the initial peak, maintaining this level until approximately 30 minutes into the test. Subsequently, another drop occurs, reducing the speed to 15W, which continues until around 42 minutes.
A significant and rapid drop to about 8 watts happens around the 47-minute mark, persisting for another 10 minutes before tapering off further. The results indicate that Apple's 20W claim is conservative, and the Apple latest iPhone model can handle faster charging speeds.
However, it's important to note that as the battery reaches higher charge levels, the speed diminishes like any other smartphone, aligning with an industry-wide practice to preserve battery health over the long term.
