The internet's currently abuzz with speculation about the upcoming iPhone 15 series. One intriguing rumor suggests that all standard and Pro versions of the Apple iPhone 15 will feature the Dynamic Island. Undoubtedly, it will revive people's interest in lower-end models.
Moving on to the recent break, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the updated Dynamic Island will pack a new and improved proximity sensor, unlike the current pill shape, which has a slightly low-quality sensor. His latest tweet has triggered an obvious stream of questions like; is the Dynamic island more sizable now? Will the upgrade affect its functionality?
Kuo says there are no significant changes in the pill's appearance or functionality. It will remain the same for Pro and Non-Pro iPhones. However, his tweet primarily focuses on the upgraded proximity sensor — for those unaware, it is a sensor that detects skin when you bring the phone closer to your ear and turns the screen off.
With the latest iPhones, the so-called skin-detecting sensor lives inside the Dynmaic island. The current 14-series has a 1380nm wavelength sensor. According to Kuo, Apple plans to upgrade that to a 940mm wavelength making it more sensitive to skin exposure when calling. If you're on a budget, it's worth checking the iPhone rate list for older models, which can still provide a great user experience.
While it will better the user experience on the upcoming iPhone 15 series, users will hardly notice the change. It will not affect the Dynamic island's functionality or size, says Ming-Chi Kuo.
The impact of Dynamic Island's upgrade remains uncertain, particularly in light of the rumored bezel reduction, which purportedly trims the bezel widths around the display to a mere 1.55mm. On that front, we will have to wait for more reports to surface.
