iPhone 16 Pro & 16 Pro Max Unveiled; Apple’s First AI-Centric Devices with Bigger Screens

They kept everything straight and only debuted four models at yesterday’s event. There was a base iPhone 16 and a 16 Plus. Then, there were iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max in the upper echelon. This piece will only cover Pro and Pro Max with specs and pricing.

iPhones have gotten taller this year. 6.3" for the base Pro and 6.9" panel for the Pro Max. The top brightness of their XDR OLEDs is 2000nits, and they keep a ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate like the generations before. We also learned that they get the slimmest-ever bezels yet.

Apple Intelligence and Apple A18 Pro chip were in the limelight. A18 Pro got 15% faster CPU-wise and 20% faster at graphics. But now a 16-core Neural engine is also on the chip for AI stuff. That TSMC 2nd-gen 3nm architect made it more efficient, even with the upticks.

They used a 2nd gen quadpixel 48MP lens as a primary sensor on Apple's latest iPhone models. Both Pros do ProRaw and HEIF photo modes. And yes, the 48MP ultrawide did make it to both phones. For the third, each can do periscope 12MP 5x portrait shots at 120mm zoom.

Their focus was less on upgrades and more on utility this year. That’s why there’s a camera capture button. You can tap it with tactile feedback. Touch it once for photos and hold it for videos. And you get 4K 120FPS Spatial recording for Vision Pro in one of the video modes.

They decided not to reveal the numbers. But we suspect everyone will call the 16 Pro Max the longest-lasting iPhone yet. And yes, 25W Magsafe wireless and 15W Qi wireless charging are available on both. Price-wise, the iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 (~PKR 278,000), and the starter iPhone 16 Pro Max will be $1199 (~PKR 334,000). They won't go on sale until 20th September.
