We may only be a few months shy of their usual launch timeline for new iPhones. They'll probably draw curtains from it this fall. But way before the countdown hits zero. The Apple iPhone 16 line has run into some pretty interesting leaks lately. We hear that Apple is kicking off the production of OLED displays right on time.
It wasn't too long ago when we discovered the news. Samsung and LG had scored contracts from Apple to build OLEDs for iPhone 16s. It seems they've asked both manufacturers now to begin mass OLED production.
A local publication from Korea (the Elec) reported this news. They say Samsung is responsible for the OLEDs on all four iPhone 16 phones. But LG will only fabricate the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max displays. That means Apple is on schedule. All of us will see the lineup debut on time.
There's nothing extraordinary about Samsung doing OLEDs for Apple's upcoming iPhone models. They've been in the game a long time. But LG has never been the first choice of partner in Apple's books. Or at least, that was the case until the iPhone 15 Pro series. LG was a key player for OLEDs last fall.
The Elec informs all the readers that nothing new is coming to the iPhone 16 OLEDs, except maybe even more shrunk bezels. But there are also reports out there about a size shift. We might see 6.3" and 6.9" screen sizes for iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Max (instead of 6.1" and 6.7").
