Apple iPhone 16e Spotted in the Wild, Posing Next to the iPhone 16

Apple no longer intends to call its budget iPhone device an SE. That’s right! The days for the SE family are numbered, as Apple might try and rename the 2025 SE 4 an “iPhone 16e.” Ever since the first report about the new title, this device has been under a microscope, leaving a trail of clues about its specs and design.

A leaker just exposed the iPhone 16e design in real-life hands-on images. The image puts the new iPhone 16 and the future iPhone 16e side-by-side to show how identical they look, besides the camera and the smaller size of course. The leaked shot comes from Majin Bu’s recent post on X.

The keen-eyed among you might have noticed the size difference right away, not just in the camera, but in overall dimensions. From what we have heard so far, the 16e is expected with a smaller screen at about 6.06” while the pure iPhone 16 is 6.1” diagonally.

This panel will give you an LTPS OLED and a 60Hz refresh rate with an FHD+ super retina screen. The single tiny cutout for the camera on the iPhone 16e makes it look extremely minimal. Prolific leaker Majin Bu shared a video earlier on his profile showing what seemed to be a dummy iPhone 16e unit. As always, the Apple iPhone price list will determine whether consumers find these specs justified.

It looked too barebone in the clip, void of any identity. The mix of flat edges and a small camera popping out of its shell makes it look timid when placed side by side with the iPhone 16. But, we digress. The 16e might fall short of its sibling, but it has its perks.

If you go for an iPhone 16e, you can save money with the expected price tag around $500. That’s the first upside. The iPhone 16e might have a full-size screen, probably borrowed from the iPhone 14, so it’s modern and comes with a Face ID for the first time. Those who remember the 14 know that it had no Dynamic Island, so expect 16e to skip this feature as well.

Like the SEs in the past, this new phone will probably use the latest Apple A8 chip. The camera on the back might be 48 MP to keep up with modern standards, and the front shooter might be a 24 MP lens, as Apple seems to be heading that way with the iPhone 17 generation.
