Apple iPhone 17 Dummy Units Reveal the New Design & MagSafe for the “Air” Model

There’s a new leak doing rounds on the interwebs, giving fans a closer look at the upcoming iPhone 17 family. Up until this point, we had only discovered the lineup’s changing design in renders and concepts. But now, to visualise the new look even better, someone has leaked the dummy iPhone 17 models with the expanded camera islands.

Before we tell you about today’s story, you might need a bit of context. Ever since the iPhone 16 launch, leak-ville has been constantly reporting that the iPhone 17 family might be changing its design this year, parting ways with the repetitive iPhone design over the past few years.

The initial guess was a Pixel-esque horizontal camera bar design for the new iPhones, but it had little merit. Over time, the leaks and the report settled on one possible design with the same triple-lens assortment, but the camera tray underneath expanded to the entire upper half with the flash and LIDAR pushed to the right edge.

This design was then leaked in a fan-made concept promo video. These dummy iPhone 17 molds confirm three things. The iPhone 17 Air will launch alongside the family with its thin profile, as you can see in the image and the raised single-lens camera strip on the rear side. Pricing details are still under wraps, but the latest iPhone rate list suggests it could be positioned as a premium offering in the series.

There were speculations that MagSafe had been removed from the iPhone 17 Air, but the circular imprint on the dummy unit confirms that the MagSafe might be available across the entire lineup this year. Another thing confirmed by these images is the increased thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

Rumors about the iPhone Pro duo getting a bigger battery might be true after all. The thick chassis will also help with the cooling since Apple wants to use a vapor cooling chamber to better the duo’s performance. The dummy units are another hint about the iPhone 17’s changing design.

There’s a chance that iPhone 17 might have the same look as the current iPhone 16. It is still early to predict Apple’s move with the next iPhone generation, but these dummy units are the closest evidence we’ve found so far about the changing design. If you found this leak interesting, stay tuned so you can learn more about it in future updates.
