The iPhone 17 Pro redesign, purported by various online sources so far, has people scared about the unappealing look of the device this year (iPhone 17 Pro Max included). But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman came with some reassuring news today. Like us, if you also felt queasy about the iPhone’s new look, this report should help put your mind at ease.
Here’s a bit of context for the story first. We’ve been hearing rumors about the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max changing the rear camera design from a square camera island to a horizontal one spanning the entire upper section of the phone’s back. More importantly, it’s being claimed to have a separate color in contrast with the device’s primary color.
Even though the camera cluster remains untouched, Apple could push the LIDAR, Flash, and Mic to the other side, which is the scary part. It gives the design an unbalanced look. Seeing the iPhone part ways with its iconic design is uneasy as it is, but the different-colored horizontal bar puts the hesitation into fifth gear.
Mark Gurman, in the latest PowerOn newsletter, says that the actual design of the iPhone new model may not be what it looks like in the renders. Yes! The actual camera layout and schematic are well-guessed by the rumor mill, according to Gurman, but the muted color of the camera bar is not what’s been predicted by those images.
He says that the horizontal bar will have the same hue as the primary paint job of the device. Same as every other iPhone from the last six generations, the color of the camera island will match the primary color of the device. If true, this new look won’t be a major departure from previous generations after all.
Mark Gurman says that a major redesign isn’t expected until the iPhone 20 series. It took Apple a decade to achieve a new look for the iPhones until the iPhone X series in 2017. The next major design update won’t be coming until the iPhone 20 series, if the rumors are true. So, you should expect this year’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max to maintain an eerily similar look to the current iPhones until further notice.
