Dynamic Island on top of every iPhone takes up quite a lot of real estate on the screen, but it doesn’t have much to give back. Talk about the point of diminishing returns, right? Analyst Jeff Pu has reported that Apple seems to be working on a fix. This is what he had to say.
He talked to the folks at MacRumors and they published a full report on the next big change for the ‘Dynamic Island.’ First, we must clarify that he touted this change only for the next iPhone 17 Pro Max, not the other sibling. According to re, Dynamic Island will become noticeably smaller because of some new technologies they want to use.
They’ve been tinkering with something dubbed Metalens tech that could reduce the excess space taken by Selfie cam and Face ID in the notch, so the dynamic island will shrink in size.
It’s typically curved lenses on top of the iPhone selfie cam and that’s how it redirects light onto the sensor, but this Metalens can reduce the excess bulk of such lens type. We will see a flatter thinner lens on the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s selfie shooter with etchings for precise light focus.
He didn’t claim this anywhere, but we believe Apple is taking a page out of the Meta Quest 2’s book. They used a Fresnel lens to reduce weight and thickness and still keep the fidelity and Apple has its eye on that same lens type. This seems a good strategy for a selfie cam, but there’s still no guess of how it will apply to the Face ID.
