Apple iPhone SE 4 Leaked Again, Revealing a Notch Instead of Dynamic Island

Between Apple’s vow of silence and the rumor mill spewing contradicting reports about the iPhone SE 4, the past few weeks have been confusing, to say the least. Thankfully, we hit a lucky break yesterday as the display supply chain analyst Ross Young cleared the air about the screen on the iPhone SE 4 (or what the rumor mill is now calling the iPhone 16e).

The SE 4 display was reported by some to use a Dynamic Island, but other leaks disagreed, saying that the screen on this phone is borrowed from iPhone 14. That’s from an era when Apple still used a Notch instead of dual cutouts for the Dynamic Island.

We’ve heard rumors that the iPhone SE 4 is using the same old screen as the iPhone 14, and now the claim is backed by the DSC analyst Ross Young. His X post reads “Notch like iPhone 14 is correct.” This is still a theory, mind you, but his track record with leaks is worth taking seriously.

If you are still not convinced, the iPhone SE 4 has also been leaked with dummy images, which can be found circulating the web. Considering the Apple iPhone price list, many will be curious to see where the SE 4 stands in terms of affordability.  You can see that SE 4 took the same approach as the iPhone 14, making the side rails flat and using the same dimensions.

These two phones will overlap in multiple categories, but we’d like to point out some differences. SE 4 will only have a single camera unit on the back, as you can see in the images. It will also follow the modern protocol and switch the lightning port with the USB-C jack.

Besides the design, Digital Chat Station leaked some of its specs on Weibo, which makes the phone much more interesting. The leaker says its screen is 6.06” with a 1080p resolution on an OLED panel. Also, the whole reason it uses a notch is to bring a FaceID, which will replace SE 3’s TouchID system.

SE 4 will keep the premium screen quality at least and throw out the modern features — no Dynamic Island, no fancy refresh rate, and no dual camera. Luckily, the full facelift for iPhone SE 4 doesn’t come with a big price hike. This phone will probably cost $500 even, which is affordable and fitting for a semi-flagship iPhone.
