Galaxy S25 Ultra's Gorilla Glass Armor 2 is Easier to Scratch Than its Predecessor

The Samsung S25 Ultra is already losing its position as the best Android flagship in the market with a major drawback that a YouTuber discovered. From what we have gathered till now, the phone’s durability is under scrutiny after a teardown video went viral on the internet.

The S25 Ultra claims to easily survive drops from over 2.2m height onto the concrete, and that’s all thanks to Corning’s exclusive Gorilla Armor 2 Glass, which no other device has at this point. Zack from JerryRigEverything was testing the Ultra in his usual teardown-style video and found that this Glass scratches far too easily than the S24 Ultra’s Gorilla Armor 1.

Youtuber and smartphone teardown specialist Zack pointed out in his video that Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ceramic-coated Armor 2 Glass is prone to scratches at Mohs level 6. S24 Ultra only scratched at level 7, if you scroll back to his older video.

The level 6 pick he used in the video only dealt a minor scratch to the S24 Ultra in his previous teardown, but you can see the very same pick doing more damage to the Glass on the new Samsung Ultra mobile. From a technical viewpoint, this was expected with this new Gorilla Armor 2 Glass.

This phone is more drop-resistant with the new technology and tested safely from a 2.2m high fall. But this could only be achieved by making the Glass softer and less brittle to save it from shattering. Sadly, this also means the Glass must be softer which caused the scratch at Mohs level 6 pick.

S24 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Armor was more hardened, so it was less drop-resistant but safer from scratches at least. There has to be a balance between drop and scratch protection, which is hard to achieve side-by-side, but the Galaxy S25 Ultra still nails it on the head.

Yes, the S25 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Armor 2 will scratch more easily than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, but the Korean smartphone Manufacturer must’ve made a calculated move to make it more drop-resistant, based on consumer preferences. This isn’t something you’ll notice in your day-to-day use, but the Glass still has that ceramic anti-reflective layer, which is something you’ll grow to appreciate once you get your hands on a Galaxy S25 Ultra. This phone is open for pre-order till February 20th in Pakistan, priced at Rs 439,999.
