If you’ve been waiting for a mid-ranged 5G-capable smartphone, your dream 5G smartphone might be closer at hand than you think. Reportedly, Huawei is planning to refresh its popular Nova family with a new arrival – the Nova 6 5G. And while we have received confirmation that this model is in the works, Huawei has to yet to announce a release date. Here’s everything we know so far.

There’s no word on the launch schedule for the upcoming Huawei Nova 6 5G, but credible rumors claim that the phone is set for release by December this year. Dubbed WLZ-AN00, the Nova 6 has already been spotted on CMIIT listings, which point to six different variants being certified. In other words, the phone would be available in at least six different versions.

Courtesy of 91Mobiles, a handful of leaked renders have surfaced as well which showcase a pill-style punch-hole design housing a twin front-facing camera setup. And save for the slightly heavy chin, the design seems near-bezel-free.

On the back, the renders show a glass back panel alongside a triple-camera arrangement followed by an LED flash. A sensor, which appears to be either a 3D Time-of-Flight module or laser autofocus is also visible on the top right corner.

There’s no rear-mounted fingerprint reader, indicating that the phone might make use of an in-display fingerprint reader. Another possibility is a side-mounted scanner. The resolution of the renders is a bit blurry, but you can make out what seems to be a side-mounted fingerprint reader sitting on the power button, next to the volume rockers.

Neither the source nor the Chinese Ministry Database hints at the spec details of this device but it would be reasonable to assume that the phone might rock the Kirin 990 Chipset embedded with support for 5G. It’s the same SoC that sits on the still-recent Mate 30 Pro, but the rest of the hardware still remains a mystery. That being said, we’ll hear more details when the phone finds its way to the TENNA listings in the weeks that follow.
