Huawei P50 Pro Also Tops DxOMark Display Rankings, Outperforming Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

DxOMark, the popular smartphone benchmark, recently ranked the Huawei P50 Pro the highest on their camera listings. And the latest P-series flagship continues to climb leaderboards. The P50 Pro features the most top-notch display in the industry, outranking even the Galaxy S21 Ultra, at least according to DxoMark.

While Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, the previous title-holder, manages 91 points, the Huawei P50 Pro hits 93 on the review. The phone delivers excellent HDR10 video content, offers a smooth touch response, and is easily readable in low light. Even though it struggles with maintaining frame rates when starting games and shows a color cast under certain conditions, the Huawei P50 Pro seemingly outperforms every competitor in its class.

Starting with the readability feature, the P50 Pro falls four points behind the industry leaders in this category, the S21 Ultra, and TCL 10 Pro. It’s a big step-up from the P40 Pro, but the colors still appear washed out outdoors and barely readable in direct sunlight. OnePlus 9 Pro fares much better in both situations.

The OnePlus 9 Pro and S21 Ultra produce accurate, tint-free colors, the P50 Pro displays a visible green-yellow cast. It becomes worse under sunlight, the contrast drops, and the tones lose their range. The same goes for viewing the screen at an angle. Its competitors maintain the rendering quality at a 45-degree angle, but the P50 Pro loses more accuracy to color casts. Lastly, with the eye comfort mode turned on, the display had a yellow color cast; the S21 Ultra filters out the harmful blue light while keeping the screen clear.

For video, Samsung is still the reigning champion. With 83 points, the Huawei P50 Pro lags 7 points behind the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The new addition to the Huawei price list shows HDR10 content with roughly the same color quality as the S21 Ultra, but the yellow cast is still visible, albeit not as pronounced. Plus, the Samsung flagship does a better job of pulling out details from the dark tones.

The P50 Pro suffers from frame drops after a few minutes of launching a game. But the touch response is instantaneous and lag-free.

Ghost touches are one of the big pitfalls of curved screens, and the P50 Pro manages them effectively. But it does show aliasing artifacts during gameplays. The refresh rate also stutters when viewing the photo gallery.
