iPhone 17 to Launch with Apple’s In-House Wi-Fi 7 Chip, Phasing Out Broadcom

Apple iPhone 17 series is surely coming in fall 2025 and rumor has it that they will be cutting ties with Broadcom, their WiFi and Bluetooth chip supplier. So, the WiFi 7 chip used inside that lineup will be Apple-made. This is what Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in his leak.

They have used Broadcom for a long time, and it has served Apple well with its very best WiFi and Bluetooth chips, but outdoor suppliers are costly. They want more and more control over the supply chain, case in point, their newly built in-house 5G modem for the iPhone SE 4.

They did it with their self-made 5G chip, so it shouldn’t be hard for Apple to make their proprietary WiFi 7 Chip. Kuo says that it’s a TSMC 7nm node used to create this new WiFi chip, and no doubt, Apple will slowly put it inside every one of its products in the next three years.

This will save them more costs on the supply and balance their profit margins by a little more. Of course, this will be a first-gen chip used in Apple's new iPhones, so there are some concerns about stability, but Apple rarely pushes out unpolished products on sale. Chances are, it will be just as good.

The same goes for their 5G modem. Apple iPhone SE 4 will be the first to use it, and eventually, more of their products will start using it. Leaks say that SE 4 will have Apple’s A18 chip, Apple 5G modem, and maybe the same old Broadcom WiFi chip.
