MediaTek Dimensity 1100 — from MediaTek’s latest generation of high-end 5G chips — is soon debuting with an upcoming Vivo phone. Vivo S9 recently appeared on Google Play Console listings. And as its launch nears, two phone leakers have covered the S9.
Our first leak, courtesy of the renowned phone leaker Digital Chat Station, shares a Vivo S9 image and an offline promotional poster. Vivo’s signature ‘AG Glass’ finish is seen once again in their first 2021 premium phone.
It’s an all-too-familiar design except for the edges that take inspiration from the new iPhones. Not only are the edges perfectly sharp and flat, but they also have a chrome finish. The camera island rests in a corner with three cameras and an LED flash — all encased in Vivo’s typical “big eye” layout.
Out on the front, the screen of the new addition to the Vivo price list has a wide wedge-shaped notch (a feature now rare in mainstream Android phones but ever-present in the iPhone line.)
Arsenal, also a Chinese phone leaker, published the specifications: With the Dimensity 1100 at its heart, the Vivo S9 manages 600k points on the AnTuTu benchmark. This raw performance is comparable to the Snapdragon 865. Plus, the Dimensity 1100 has a thinner 6nm fabrication process that makes the S9 more power-efficient.
The screen of the Vivo S9 is a 6.44” AMOLED panel that refreshes at a smooth 90Hz. Inside its notch, a pair of front cameras use Samsung’s ISOCELL GH1 sensor and an ultrawide lens.
Our second leaker further notes that the back is glass while the chrome frame is a blend of aluminum and magnesium. The build is only 7.31mm thick and weighs 168g, so a lightweight footprint was a design priority.
Lastly, Vivo S9 comes in two storage editions: 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB. It’s all backed up by a 4000 mAh battery that fast charges over 33W.
