HMD Global’s Nokia is perhaps the only big player in the market that’s still producing and marketing feature phones. And their latest blast from the past, the Nokia 5310 2020 has gone official for the budget-friendly Nokia price of 399 Yuan (~9,000 PKR). The phone is already available for pre-order in China. It’s also listed on Nokia Pakistan’s website, suggesting that it will soon be available for purchase.
You could mistake this classic Nokia 5310 2020 for the 5310 XpressMusic from several generations back. With its 2.4-inch 240p screen, 1200mAh battery, a MediaTek chip featuring 8MB of RAM and 16MB of ROM, there’s nothing new under the sun.
It goes without saying that you’ll have to expand the storage with a microSD card. The new 2020 phone runs on a Nokia Series 30+ operating system.
Nokia claims that you can get up to 30 days of standby and up to 7.5 hours of talk time out of Nokia 5310’s battery. The keypad has a retro T9 layout, and a central physical button lets you navigate the interface.
The entire build is polycarbonate that comes in Black and White colors accented with red. There are dedicated buttons for music controls (mounted on the spine) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A design feature that stands out is the two front-firing speakers intended for calls. In the center of the removable rear panel, you get a VGA camera flanked by an LED flash.
As for connectivity, the phone carries dual SIM support but is limited to 2G networks while wireless file sharing is handled by Bluetooth 3.9. The phone has a built-in FM feature as well.
It’ll be available for purchase starting from April 21 in China, Nokia prices it at just 399 Yuan which converts to some 9,400 Pakistani rupees without taxes. Nokia hasn’t shared the availability details for the Pakistani market yet.
