The Nokia G50 5G finally made its global debut after a drawn-out series of leaks and certifications. It falls into the budget mid-range segment, featuring an oversized screen, fast-charging battery, and of course, 5G connectivity. Like other G-series Nokia phones, HMD Global offers extensive software support with the G50.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 (the only cheap 5G chip in the Qualcomm catalog) is at the heart of the Nokia G50. It’s not the fastest mobile platform on the block, but you can expect longer battery life thanks to its 8nm process.

The latest Android11 OS, free of a customized skin bogging it down, runs on this hardware. Nokia G50 promises two years of OS upgrades and three years of software patches. Multitasking is enabled with 4GB/6GB of memory, and you get 64GB/128GB of internal storage. Through a microSD card, the storage can be expanded up to 512GB.

Nokia G50’s display is a 6.82” IPS LCD. Flanking the screen on two sides is a ‘Nokia’ stamped chin and a notch bleeding into it. But it peaks at only 720P and 450 nits of brightness. The camera housed inside the screen cutout is 8MP.

Together with the efficient chip, software optimizations, and the low-res screen, the 5000 mAh battery inside the Nokia G50 delivers two-day battery life. When you run low, the phone is quickly recharged at 18W of power.

Three lenses and an LED flash can be found encased in donut-style housing. It’s a cluster of one 48MP primary lens, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP portrait sensor. Software magic provides video stabilization for the selfie camera.

The shell is offered in Ocean Blue and Midnight Sun colors. A dedicated Google Assistant button and the power key are mounted on the frame. Plus, the power button doubles as the fingerprint scanner. Cardless payments are supported with NFC. Nokia G50 starts at €270 (~ Rs. 53,500.)
