HMD Global is working on a rugged Nokia phone, featuring durability standard the old Nokia once set. The Nokia X20's heavy-duty cousin was teased earlier this week on Twitter, and a Nokia-focused publication recently picked up on a forum post containing an early preview and specs for the upcoming phone. It’s reportedly titled Nokia XR20.
We also have the launch timeline for the phone. The Nokia XR20 is slated for launch on July 27, according to official sources. As per the leaked press image, we’re looking at a hefty plastic build with a solid block-like design. The frame has extra padding for drop protection, and the frame features a rugged, tough texture.
Unlike most modern Nokia phones, the XR20 houses its cameras inside a rounded square island. We also get a 3.5mm audio jack, a speaker grille, and a USB-C port. The promo showcases the phone’s resistance against water. It’s not explicitly specified, but the Nokia XR20 could sport an IP68 rating against water and dust.
LoveNokia, the publication that first reported the sneak preview, shares some of the specs. Since the phone belongs to the X-series in the Nokia price list (the premium mid-range lineup), the specs are competitive.
The Nokia XR20 has the 5G-powered Snapdragon 480 at its heart, hooked up to a 4630mAh battery — presumably with fast charging support. You get 6GB of memory, 128GB of expandable storage, and the Android11 OS.
Nokia XR20 offers a dual rear camera with a 48MP wide camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens — co-engineered with ZEISS optics. The screen is a 6.67” panel with a Full HD resolution. Like other X-series phones, Nokia guarantees three years of OS upgrades and security patches on the XR20.
