Apart from the much-awaited Oneplus Nord CE 5G release in Pakistan, reports started surfacing regarding the OnePlus Nord 2 5G as the first OnePlus phone to feature MediaTek silicon. Yesterday, OnePlus went on record to confirm the speculation. In a press release published on OnePlus Forums, the company teased the upcoming phone and its flagship chip.
OnePlus will be drawing more resources from Oppo under their new merger, which has traditionally used MediaTek chips for its mid-range phones. Building on that trend, the budget-focused OnePlus Nord 2 now has the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 at its heart, but a tweaked variant.
The Dimensity 1200 features a 6nm fabrication process designed for powerful performance. OnePlus collaborated with MediaTek to add a touch of AI magic to the chip. The custom chipset is titled the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI.
OnePlus, without giving away too much, notes that the AI-boosted chip will offer a better camera and gaming experience at an affordable Oneplus mobile price tag. The AI photography enhancement supports improved scene recognition, cleaner low-light shots, and even live HDR.
For the display, AI will introduce smarter auto-brightness control, upscaling low-resolution content, and HDR boost. Plus, faster response times will make gaming smoother and lag-free.
OnePlus Nord 2 promos are already up as a microsite on Amazon, announcing that the phone is slated for release on July 22. We know from previous leaks that the Nord 2 has a 1080P OLED screen that delivers a full HD resolution. It’s a 6.53” panel that refreshes at a smooth 90Hz. The onboard 4500 mAh battery supports fast charging. The triple-camera on the back is led by a 50MP Sony sensor.
