OPPO A58 broke cover in China last month with a slim-side profile, 50MP camera, 720p screen, and a Dimensity 700 SoC at heart. The A-series contender has now received an under-specced sibling in the home market titled OPPO A58x 5G. Let's see what this daily driver brings to the table.
The design queues on A58x are similar to the original A58. The only notable difference is that pill-shaped glossy accent under the lenses. The A58 carries an elongated accent, while on A58x, the accent confines itself to the camera protrusions.
The camera assortment is another department where A58x lacks charm. It has a dual-sensor setup enveloping 13MP and 2MP snappers in two individually raised lenses. The phone measures 163.8 x 75.1 x 7.99mm and weighs almost 186 grams.
In addition to a 6.56-inch IPS display with a notch melting in, the OPPO A new model aka the A58x 5G offers an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels, 269 PPI pixel density, a maximum brightness of 600 nits, a refresh rate of 90Hz, and an entry-stage touch sampling rate at 90Hz. A layer of Panda Glass protects it from minor scrapes and falls.
Similar to A58, OPPO A58x 5G has MTK's Dimensity 700 engine clocking at 2.2GHz. It's a budget 5G chip and doesn't integrate a strong GPU. Although it does hook up to 6 GB - 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and fast (128GB), UFS 2.2 read/write speeds. The phone graciously provides a micro SD slot.
Essential functions on this phone entail an Android 12 skin atop ColorOS 12.1, a side-held fingerprint reader, 8MP selfie snapper, Bluetooth 5.3 tech, a USB-C port, dual-speaker sound, 3.5mm audio out, and Dual-SIM support. There's a 5000mAh energizer under the chassis rated for 33W recharge. The handset would be offered in Breeze Purple, Tranquil Blue, and Star Black. The starter variant (128+6GB) only costs 173$ or ~39,000 PKR, just below the OPPO A57's official retail price.
