OPPO A series welcomes a new member into their mid-tier family. Dubbed OPPO A78 5G, the newcomer has debuted in Malaysia, and other Asian regions are likely to follow soon. Chinese and non-Chinese markets will see the launch of the A78 5G equally, unlike the predecessor A77, which confined itself within the native soil.
OPPO A78 5G is all about design. It has a frosted texture on the backplate, complimented by a glossy pill-shaped accent extended from the primary camera unit. The phone seems razor-thin in dimensions and follows the current design trend of sharp right-angled edges.
Flip over the phone to find a display that's 6.56-inch in size, based on IPS technology, boasts HD+ resolution, and refreshes at 90Hz. It also has a slightly intrusive drop-notch melting into the screen to hide an 8MP selfie shooter. Despite bearing a midrange OPPO phone price tag, the bezels wrapping the screen are pretty slim.
It features a Dimensity 700 engine at the helm, firing two fast ARM Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2GHz. The performer is 7nm, so it's battery efficient. The SoC plugs into a 5000mAh cell backed by a 33W superVOOC charging kit. A78 5G sports type-C and 3.5mm audio jack.
A 50MP primary sensor leads the smartphone's dual rear camera setup, along with a 2MP depth sensor. Storage is 128GB, RAM is 8GB onboard, and there's also a microSD card slot. 5G-active new Oppo model has an IP54 rating against dirt and water. Surprisingly, the budget runner boots up to an Android 13 OS. Though its pricing is yet to go official, a recent leak hinted at its price. The A78 5G is said to costs around $230 (~PKR 52,000), placing it well above its predecessor, the OPPO mobile A76 price.
