OPPO is at work R&D-ing an A-series exclusive budget smartphone that could potentially level with 2022 flagships. The purported phone is under every tipster’s radar, being constantly teased and leaked for the past few weeks. Enthusiasts believe that the newcomer might be OPPO A96’s new heir branded A98.

The supposed successor popped up on TENAA recently with the model number PGW110. The same model number has now appeared on Geekbench’s public database, indicating an imminent launch. Indexed on the latter’s database, the alleged OPPO A98 showcases its RAM, Android version, Soc, and performance scores. Take a look.

The leaked Geekbench Info points to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC at A98’s core. Although not explicitly named, the document showcases a Core assortment similar to the 4nm hyper-clocked 3.0 GHz SoC, SD 8 Gen 1. In addition, the phone carries 16Gigs of Physical RAM on a circuit codenamed “TARO.”

Per the document, Oppo’s upcoming 5G offering will likely run Android 13 by default. On a single-core test, it scores 1043 points, while on a Multi-core run, it scores 3685 points. Apart from that, nothing interesting appeared on Geekbench’s benchmark.

Last week’s TENAA listing gave away the design for the impending accumulation to the OPPO price list. The phone’s about to be the A-line’s first-ever curved display handset with center aligned punch hole. Moreover, rumor-mill believes that a 1080p, AMOLED, 120Hz refresh rate screen abounds the A98.

Oppo plans to break the highest PWM dimming record with its latest A-series phone. Reportedly, it will leverage 2160Hz of PWM to reduce eye strain in low brightness. DCS, the industry-renowned tipster, says that A98’s chin will measure 2.3mm, which could be Oppo’s next leap towards bezel-less screens.
