Curved screens are a trend that was basically started off by Samsung with the launch of Galaxy Note Edge in late 2014. It further got perfected and popularized with the Galaxy S6 Edge from 2015 onwards. At the time Samsung was the only manufacturer who dared to produce a curved screen, but now we do see the competition following a little bit here and there.

Now the Chinese manufacturers want to take the curved edges to a whole new level, where first we saw some leaked images of a curved screen from Vivo, and now Oppo is showing off its own innovation.

Chinese manufacturer Oppo has tweeted some photos of its upcoming smartphone. What makes it extra special is its display, having exceptionally large curved edges and no buttons on the sides.

Oppo dubs its new display technology as a "Waterfall screen". On a waterfall screen, the curves around the edges of the phone literally seem like water is flowing at 90 degrees. The prototype device teased today has a screen with 88-degree curved edges. The new technology looks phenomenal and may allow the screen-to-body ratio on future devices to be as close as 99 percent. According to Oppo, even 100% is also possible in the near future.

The prototype device does not include a front camera for now, but the finished device is expected to arrive with Oppo's previously leaked on-screen front camera. The smartphone has some really narrow bezels at the tops and bottom, and from the front, the waterfall screen makes it look like there are no side edges at all.

Oppo is expected to unveil its new smartphone at the September IFA fair in Berlin, with the company participating. As far as the specs are concerned, nothing is known yet about the other hardware involved. but it is expected to arrive with state-of-the-art technology. Based on the images, the screen aspect ratio might still be a rare 21: 9, which was also introduced by Sony earlier this year with the high-end Xperia 1.
