After the recent Oppo A54 launch in Pakistan, the brand quietly announced a new edition of its lesser-known K-series in China today. The Oppo K9 5G is currently up for presale there and hits store shelves on May 6. Here’s what the latest member of this traditionally performance-oriented lineup has to offer.
We start with the hardware inside the Oppo K9 5G. At its heart, the Oppo K9 5G features the Snapdragon 768G — an overclocked variant of the similarly mid-range Snapdragon 765G. The chip works with 8GB of memory and 128GB/256GB of storage. Plus, the internals are kept from throttling with the so-called 3D liquid cooling system onboard the K9 5G.
This hardware runs on a 4300 mAh battery, split into two 2100 mAh cells to support Oppo’s break-neck 65W charging speeds. Naturally, the latest Android11-based ColorOS powers the Oppo K9.
Despite its performance-first setup, the Oppo new model in 2021 maintains a lightweight footprint. The build is 7.9mm deep and weighs only 172g. It comes in muted charcoal and colorful iridescent hues, both stamped with ‘K-009’ branding on the back.
We flip the K9 over to find a reduced bezel and a hole-punch located off-center inside a 6.43” screen. It’s an OLED panel that delivers a full HD resolution and houses a 32MP and an optical fingerprint scanner underneath. The camera system on the back uses a 64MP wide sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP low-res sensor.
The pricing won’t be released until the launch event on May 6, where Oppo is reportedly unveiling a new wearable and Enco Air Buds alongside the Oppo K9.
