Oppo Reno5 series first leaked in a TENNA certificate, alongside a specification sheet detailing the alleged internals for the upcoming sub-flagship. Today, the Pro variant of this new lineup appeared on Geekbench's database.
Oppo Reno4 Pro, released last quarter, had Snapdragon 765G. But MediaTek's top-of-the-line Dimensity 1000+ processor is at the heart of this phone. The setup, combined with 8GB of memory, boots to the Android11-powered ColorOS 11. To keep the naming scheme more consistent with the respective Android version, Oppo is skipping three generations from the current ColorOS 7.
On paper, the MediaTek silicon performs better, but the Snapdragon chip offers longer battery life. When benchmarked on single-threaded tasks, the Oppo Reno 5 Pro manages a score of 2,392 points. For multi-core tests, the phone reaches 5,836 points — here, double the score suggests double the performance with a sixth-gen Intel Core i7 chip acting as the 4000 point baseline.
Do note that the scorecard is listed under the model number ‘OPPO PDSM00,’ which allegedly belongs to the Oppo Reno5 Pro. At the time of this writing, that can’t be verified. But the standard Reno5 has a similar model number.
Oppo has already refreshed the Reno series twice this year and rumor has it that the Reno5 and Reno5 Pro will come out before 2020 ends — even though Oppo Reno 5 won’t be much of an upgrade over the current Reno4 5G. The price will tell the other half of the story, but they’re essentially the same phone. They have the same Snapdragon 765G processor, 65W fast charging, and OLED screen. And if the Reno5 is any guide, the Reno5 Pro will also be a de facto Reno4 Pro edition. At any rate, Reno designs are getting less imaginative (a far cry from the Reno2 and its novel sliding camera system).
