Realme 5, Realme 5s, and Realme 5i Get the October 2020 Security Update

Realme promises two years of software updates for all its phones and unlike its Chinese competition, the company never displays intrusive ads within the UI as Xiaomi or Infinix do. The Realme 5 series came out earlier in August last year with Android Pie (9.0) and later received the Android10 upgrade. Realme is now rolling out a security patch for the series.

The update contains the latest October 2020 security patch to resolve vulnerabilities in Android’s open-source code. Bugs in the software can allow attackers to unlock system-level permissions with a malicious app, access your data, and specifically affect MediaTek and Qualcomm chipsets.

Currently, the Realme 5, Realme 5s, and Realme 5i are being patched for better stability and performance optimization. All three models run on Snapdragon processors, so we’d recommend you update if you own a Realme 5 variant. The firmware update version is RMX1911EX_11.C.59.

Realme had originally been using the ColorOS that its parent company Oppo makes, but it later launched its own UI, the realme UI 1.0, and based it on Android10. Its second version realme UI 2.0 is already in beta. The Realme 5 Pro is listed under phones scheduled to receive the realmeUI 2.0 in Q2 of 2021.

It’s built on the latest Android11 and brings a host of new tweaks and features to the OS. Like the stock Android11, the realme UI 2.0 isn’t a visual overhaul over its predecessor. Instead, it focuses on features that enhance customization, and productivity.
