As WhatMobile noted in a post earlier, Realme was set to launch its mid-range Realme 5i for Asian markets. The new model has gone official in India on January 9th, but way before that it already made a debut in Vietnam. Realme 5i packs a beefy 5,000 mAh battery and a four-lens camera but manages to remain a budget-friendly pick – the signature feature of Realme’s offerings.
The Realme 5i is retailing through multiple online vendors (that have partnered up with Realme), and it will set you back $160, or roughly 25,000 PKR. For this pocket-friendly price tag, you get a modest 6.52-inch IPS LCD that produces an HD+ resolution and sports a waterdrop-notch (or as Realme likes to call it, the ‘Mini-drop’).
The design features slim side bezels, but the chin remains heavier than the forehead. You can pick from Green and Blue hues but the standard Realme 5 decidedly has a better rear-shell design.
The design on the back is nearly identical to the original Realme 5, save for the glossy finish. Instead of the fractal pattern that Realme 5 showed off, Realme 5i offers a less distinctive ‘Sunburst’ look. The camera setup is housed in a simple (albeit unimaginative) vertical bump, with an 8-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens sitting on top.
Underneath it, is housed a 12-megapixel primary lens, rounded off by a pair of 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors. A capacitive rear-mounted fingerprint reader flanks the camera housing. For snapping selfies, the phone brings you an 8-megapixel shooter – a downgrade from the 13-megapixel unit on Realme 5.
Under the hood, you get a Snapdragon 665 chip, which 3 GB /4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage round off. The storage can be expanded up to 256 GB and the 5,000 mAh battery supports 10W fast-charging. Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t run on the Android-10-based ColorOS 7 out of the box, but Realme might roll out an update for it soon. Realme 5i is tipped to land in Pakistan next month, with an expected price of 29,000 to 31,999 PKR.
