After a protracted wait, the Xiaomi Redmi A2 and A2 Plus finally left Mi's pipeline. The twins have gone official globally and will soon start retailing in numerous countries worldwide. Like their precursors, A1 and A1 Plus, the newcomers are off to a good start, featuring a newly announced chip and an amped-up battery. Here's a quick rundown of their specialties.

Firstly, the design. The A2 series carries over its matte-surfaced low-key, soft-colored plastic backplate from its parent A1 lineup. It has the same camera island on the back and semi-flat edges on the side. It doesn't change much in specs, either.

Users will find a 6.52-inch IPS LCD on both A2 series models with HD+ resolution (1080 x 720px) and a 20:9 aspect ratio, cloned from the original A series runners. At their price point, a 60Hz refresh rate on that screen is not a deal breaker. However, they could've done better in the camera department. The primary shooter is 8MP, and the selfie camera is only 5MP.

Now for the second part. Here's where the tide shifts; the newcomer comes bearing MediaTek's Helio G36 SoC coupled with up to 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. A2 and A2 Plus should perform better than the original A1 phones housing Helio A22 SoCs: the improved clock speeds, LPDDR4X RAM, and eMMC 5.1 storage tech will contribute to a faster and smoother UI experience. For those interested in Xiaomi phones, don't forget to check out the Xiaomi price list for the latest models and prices.

Their lightweight Android 12 Go operating systems won't take up much of the space from built-in 32GB ROMs; still, users can expand the storage by up to 1TB using an SD card, if that's a huge concern.

And finally, where they draw the power from. Redmi A2 and A2 Plus have the quintessential 5000mAh batteries, likely recharging at 10W. Where they resemble each other in every possible category, the fingerprint reader is the only thing setting each twin apart. The Plus variant has one mounted on the back plate, while the other doesn't. Their prices are yet to unwrap. Stay tuned, and we'll keep you posted.
