QMobile Unboxing
On unboxing the package, Lying on top of the box, you’ll find the M6 smartphone with the protective plastic film already installed. Supplied with 5V charger, a microUSB cable, headphones with 3.5 mm audio jack and in-ear type plugs. OTG data cable is also provided which helps you connect other devices with your phone via USB. A small clip is also tucked inside the box to pop up the SIM and micro SD card slots. At the very bottom of the box, you will find the instructions manual, warranty card, silicon protective cover and a screen protector.
M6’s Design
The phone will be available in the market in Gold and Coffee Colours. We got the coffee colored M6 for the review and to be honest the phone does look amazing while holding it in your hands.
Weighing only 183 grams with 8.2mm of thickness the phone still manages to pack a whopping 5000mAh battery, which in itself is astonishing. Usually, a Chinese branded phone in plastic body weighs well over 200 grams whereas the Q Mobile M6 is enclosed in a metal unibody chassis made of aluminum and magnesium alloys & still weighs less. The only downside to this, however, is that the metallic body is prone to scratches and as we used it for a week without the plastic cover, the back already started showing light scars.
13 Megapixel camera on the rear bulges out of the body just a little bit with the curved left and right edges to make it feel more natural in the hands. The metallic sides also serve as antennas, increasing the overall signal efficiency by without having to compromise such an elegant design. At the bottom of the display, two capacitive buttons are provided along with a physical home button that doubles as a fingerprint reader while the capacitive buttons do not come illuminated with backlight.
Display and sound
M6 by QMobile is equipped with a 5.5 inch AMOLED display that carries a full HD resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels at 401 ppi. The screen is protected by a 2.5D scratch resistant glass. The AMOLED screen manufactured by Samsung does not fail to impress us with its brightness, wide viewing angle and intense colors will surely win you over especially the blacks that are displayed naturally.
you can also adjust the color temperature of the display from the three provided options i.e Neutral, cold or warm color. You’ll also see a setting to filter blue light, a feature that is becoming more common on mid-range and premium phones and is quite handy especially in dark places. Touch is responsive and there are no lags whatsoever.
The sound comes from the speaker positioned at the bottom. There are two speaker grills, but just one hides the speaker. the second grill is there to balance the design. M6’s speaker is loud and clear with enough bass and also bears s DTS sound certification. Putting the speaker at the bottom is really not a good idea as holding the phone in landscape mode while playing games or watching a video could block the speaker grill resulting in a dim audio. Speaker should always be placed on front or back, which seems a much more reliable option for gaming and multimedia.
3.5 mm jack and infrared port are placed on top whereas the power and volume controls are located on the right side accompanied by the dual SIM slot.
The bundled headphones inside the box produce a decent amount of bass, those who want more quality can switch to a better headphone brand.
QMobile M6’s Hardware
QMobile’s M6 packs a MediaTek Helio P10 processor under the hood which is not as bad as people think. Aided by the Mali-T860MP2 graphics accelerator and 4 GB of RAM it is able to run all the games and applications from Google Play, even the games that require top-notch processing power. There’s not much we disliked about the phone in performance department except for the fact that the accelerometer failed to switch between landscape and portrait modes a few times while quick rotations but that only happened a few times at the start of the review and we were not able to replicate the issue despite several attempts.
QMobile Noir M6 is a dual SIM smartphone in a true sense as both SIM cards support 4G LTE and can reach up to a phenomenal speed of 300 Mbps while downloading and 50 Mbps in uploads. It also supports micro SD card slot up to 128 GB. By the way, both SIM card slots support the micro SIM format. Here I am going to add some Benchmarks Test that will show you the true power of this phone.
Operating System on M6:
QMobile has stuffed Android Marshmallow v6.0 inside the M6 with Amigo UI 3.5 running on top. Almost every other Q phone now comes equipped with the same user interface, there is a long list of good things about this IOS style UI that we can go on and on about but we are only going to mention a few here as the review is about the new M6 and not about the UI.
Notification bar can easily be accessed by swiping down from the top of the screen. Setting are fairly simple to go about, well organized and user-friendly. Split screen feature is also there but is limited to only a few tasks but hey! now you can actually chat with your friends while watching the movies, isn’t that great? Some other advanced functions are also added including double tap to lock and unlock the screen, Smart Display where the phone detects the user’s eyes on the screen and keeps the screen active and Answering the incoming call by raising the Q Mobile to the ear. You can choose to activate or disable these features in advance settings.
Connectivity:
QMobile Noir mobile M6 carries every other connectivity module you can think of starting from The Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS to FM radio, everything is included. The phone also packs an accelerometer, compass, gyro meter and proximity sensor.
The M6 is equipped with a Dual-band Wi-Fi which is not mentioned on the box however upon testing Wi-Fi does not provide a better coverage on 5GHz anyway but things get much better in the 2.4 GHz mode. Speed Test caught 43.37 Mbps to 48.69 Mbps in download and upload over 2.4 GHz while I had no problems in browsing or streaming the video content from YouTube.
The finger reader works fairly well, there were few hit and miss though as the phone requires your finger to be placed on the sensor for a little longer and if you lift it up too quickly it will not unlock the phone. While in sleep mode you’ll also need to press the fingerprint sensor to wake up and unlock the screen.
Camera and video
13 Megapixel main camera having Sony IMX258 sensor is capable of recording 1080p video at 30 fps whereas the 8 Megapixel front camera is a perfect gift for those who are passionate selfie takers. The camera has built-in OIS but no 4K video recording, yet it captures unexpectedly outstanding photos in HDR mode, autofocus is precise and what’s even more impressive is the bokeh effect, natural colors shine without applying any color grade or filters.
Video camera app is quite user-friendly and is very easy to use, you can easily and instantly switch between the four available modes from normal Video mode to beauty face or HDR. Photo menu provides several options ranging from HDR to Night Scenery and Time-lapse to Auto shot. Other features include text recognition from GIF or PDF files, barcode scanning, Memo, Card Scanner, translation, and Photo anytime.
Battery
5000 mAh battery is manufactured by SDI which is actually a Samsung factory. So we have two important elements in M6 by QMobile which are manufactured by the South Korean giant i.e AMOLED display and a massively huge battery.
AMOLED screens consume less power as compared to the IPS panels and MediaTek Helio P10 processor with all of its ARM Cortex-A53 cores helps the QMobile’s M6 to perform from just good to very good.
Under a moderate to medium usage, we easily got a threshold of 1.5 – 2 days. While with a much more intensive full day usage we were still not able to drain the battery completely, even when the brightness was set to maximum. With numerous Calls, SMS, heavy internet browsing and brightness set to 50%, The Q M6 can still easily last up to 3 days.
Conclusion:
QMobile M6 is a smartphone that scored very well in numerous departments i.e Super crisp AMOLED display, substantial battery, great camera sensor, great build quality, yet the biggest problem with the high-end QMobile phones in Pakistan is that the company is not an international brand. And that’s probably it’s greatest sin. But here we must admit that the device deserved the 4K shooting capability and a more powerful processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 / 650 or MediaTek Helio X25 would have been far more attractive solutions.
However, A combination of Helio P10 + 4GB RAM + 64GB storage had shown no issues whatsoever while gaming or running any apps from the Play Store. Altogether, QMobile M6 would be our recommendation to those seeking an Android phone with great battery and an awesome display.
