Samsung’s answer to the infamous ‘notch’ has only been their Infinity-O designs so far – although we have heard rumors about an under-display selfie camera for the upcoming Samsung new model Note 20. But the company is now experimenting with a motorized pop-up module, per a set of reliable renders from SamMobile and Onleaks.
The mystery phone depicted in the renders doesn’t have a name attached to the mockups, but based on an educated guess and its mid-range build, we suspect it to be an A-series model. Furthermore, the only Galaxy A-series phone to ever employ a novel solution was the Galaxy A80 with its manual sliding mechanism, which could mean that these mockups show a Galaxy A80 successor.
The motorized pop-up designs were in vogue last year, but we have yet to see them make an appearance in Samsung latest models. At any rate, if this leak pans out, the purported phone shown in these renders would be the first Samsung phone to feature a pop-up camera.
Unfortunately, in a similar vein as its title, no specifications are available for this phone yet. But based on the images, you’re looking at a notch or hole-free display, possibly an LCD panel, since you can also make out a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.
The bezels and chin remain rather prominent even so, which could translate into a higher-than-expected screen-to-body ratio. The edges are chamfered, and the build has a solid glossy finish, which appears to be glass. Around the back, you get a triple-camera system inside narrow vertical housing.
The 3.5mm headphone jack has been lopped off, and you can spot a speaker grille and a USB-type C port. SamMobile speculates that the mockups may not be intended for production. Instead, they might just be concept renders from an official source.
