The Galaxy A01 Core is the cheaper-still edition of Samsung’s most affordable A-series phone, the Galaxy A01. Featuring a retro design, the lightweight Android Go, and an affordable Samsung mobile price tag, the handset silently got unveiled in Indonesia. Forget the modern edge-to-edge, notched, or punched full displays, the Samsung Galaxy A01 Core brings a two-generation old build.
The front A01 core panel stretches 5.3” across (perfect if you prefer smaller screens which have become all but obsolete today), delivering an HD+ resolution at an old-school 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It’s a PLS LCD panel. And nestled inside the sizeable top bezel is a 5MP front-facing camera.
Flip the Samsung Galaxy A01 Core over to find a striped pattern painted on an almost glossy rear-facing cover. It’s duo-tone, a third of the shell clean, containing Samsung’s logo. The build weighs only 150g and measures 8.6mm in thickness. It comes in blue, black, and red shades, and only features a tiny single 8MP rear camera and LED flash.
An equally dated MediaTek MT6739 chipset from 2017 powers the Galaxy A01 core, paired with an underwhelming 16GB/32GB of storage expandable up to 512GB with a microSD card, and 1GB/2GB of memory.
Its quad-core CPU is clocked at 1.5GHz, and it boots to Android Go (a featherweight OS optimized for low-grade hardware). Samsung A01 Core is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery that charges over a previous-gen USB Type-C port. Samsung promises up to 14 hours of internet browsing and 11 hours of video playback out of a single charge. The phone goes on sale in Indonesia on July 23 at $67 or approximately Rs. 11,000 PKR if it ever makes it to Pakistan.
