There wasn’t a stage appearance or a press release for this one, but their Samsung Galaxy A16 5G now has a formal listing on the brand website in the Netherlands, so we know everything about it. The phone itself isn’t much of an upgrade than last year, but the 6x OS update promise is a big deal.
If we had to rank it, the A16 5G is an entry-tier phone at best, so the 6-year Android update support is very enticing to find in a device like this. No other brand than Samsung is bold enough to claim such a prolonged after-sale service and with it, A16 5G will keep fresh till Android 20.
Then there’s an upgrade on the durability side for Galaxy A16 5G because we see an IP54 rating here for the first time in entry-class Samsung. It’s only 7.9mm thin, so they’ve cut down the weight and thickness by much if you put it side-by-side with A15.
There’s still the same old 5000mAh cell here and 25W charging in Samsung's latest budget phone, but at least they polished its design slightly. You can tell that they shrank the bezels on two sides, even though the chin and notch are just as thick and intrusive. Not by much, but the screen-to-body ratio has gone up.
Speaking of the screen, the A16 5G is built around a Super AMOLED 90Hz 6.7” panel that can push itself to around 800 nits peak brightness. This is FHD+, so you get those sharp visuals. Cameras on the A16 5G are: 50 MP (main) + 5 MP (ultrawide) + 2 MP Macro + 13 MP (selfie).
No Android 15 from the factory, unfortunately. It’s the old One UI 6.1/Android 14 combo out of the box, but it’s a good thing that it has 5+ years of support. They put the Galaxy A16 5G’s base 4/128GB trim on the official store for about €249 (~PKR 75,000), and there are colors like Blue Black, Light Gray, Gold, or Light Green.
