Following a brief string of rumors and leaks, the Samsung Galaxy M53 5G was quietly announced yesterday. The announcement was made through an unceremonious press release detailing the specs and product images. But the pricing and availability remain a mystery for now.
The official Galaxy M53 spec sheet lines up almost perfectly with the reported leaks. We’re looking at a roomy 6.7” SuperAMOLED O-hole display. The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G's upcoming cousin produces a full HD+ resolution and smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung has embedded a 32MP front camera inside the hole punch.
The quad-lens matrix features 8MP ultra-wide, 108MP f/1.8 main, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth cameras. It’s all housed inside a compact square, flanked by an LED flash.
Unlike the soft pastel tones of its Galaxy A counterpart, this Galaxy M phone comes in more striking brown, mint, and dark blue shades. The Galaxy M53 is also one of Samsung’s more lightweight models — clocking in at 7.44mm of thickness and 176g of weight.
The phone-maker squeezed a 5000 mAh battery inside the casing despite the slim profile at a mid-range Samsung smartphone price. It charges over a faster 25W power standard. But the campaign against the charger has hit the budget lineups too this year. Like the Galaxy A53, the charging brick for the Galaxy M53 is sold separately now. There’s no mention of a 3.5mm audio port either.
Samsung is reluctant to outright name the chipset at this phone’s heart. But we suspect it’s a 5G MediaTek platform. The performance should be comparable to the Exynos 1280 powering the Galaxy A53. You get 6GB of multitasking memory and 128GB of expandable internal storage. Plus, the Android 12 x OneUI OS runs on this hardware.
