We’re still several weeks away from the January launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy S21 series, but the rumor mill has already given us detailed renders and leaks. Over the weekend, Android Police leaked the specification sheets for the whole series — revealing everything there is to know about the new phones. Let’s take a look at each variant.
Samsung Galaxy S21
If you haven’t been following the story, Samsung has redesigned the S series. The camera bump has grown bigger than ever and it now envelops the frame itself. Just like the new Note 20 or the S20 FE, the S21 will be made from plastic.
On the front, the screen is now flat, surrounded by slim bezels on all four sides. The QHD+ resolution gets trimmed down to 1080P but the rest of specifics haven’t changed much.
It’s a 6.2” panel that operates on a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The camera system, featuring a 12MP standard, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 64MP telephoto lens, is inherited wholesale.
Like it does every year, the new S21 series will offer two processor variants — Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 875 or Samsung’s Exynos 2100. Neither of the chipsets have been announced yet, but both SoCs will be manufactured by Samsung, and reportedly, the new Exynos line is finally going to be good.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus
The Galaxy S21+ is essentially a bigger sized variant, with a larger battery. In this version, you get a 4800 mAh battery (upped from S20 Plus’ 4500 mAh cell) with support for at least 25W fast charging. Plus, a 6.7” display with a static 120Hz refresh rate. The camera system is, again, unchanged.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra
The S21 Ultra gets the most upgrades. It reportedly has support for an S-pen and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate at a WQHD+ resolution. The flagship is also getting unique Wi-Fi 6E, advertised to be twice as fast as the usual standard.
The 108MP is making a return and it will be joined by two telephoto cameras — one offers 3x optical zoom, and the other 10x optical magnification. Samsung’s new OneUI 3.1 (based on Android11) powers the three phones.
