Samsung Galaxy S22 Series to Use New Gorilla Glass Victus+ Across the Board

Gorilla Glass Victus that came out last year proved to be Corning’s toughest glass yet. With up to 4x better scratch resistance and drop protection up to 2 meters, it is easily more durable than every comparable aluminosilicate on the market. So it was no surprise when Samsung used it on their premium Galaxy S21 line. And Corning is taking this victory a step further with Gorilla Glass Victus+ this year. And once again, we’ll see Samsung’s flagship S22 series rocking this new glass shield.

The industry leaker Ice Universe tweeted that all three Galaxy S22 phones — the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra — adopt the upcoming Gorilla Glass Victus+. Corning hasn’t launched the Victus+ yet, but scratch resistance was a big highlight of the original Victus, so we expect more gains in that department.

While the Galaxy S21+ and S21 Ultra were crafted from a glass sandwich, the standard S21 used plastic for its casing. The last Galaxy Note 20 also had a polycarbonate back. But that seems to be a brief blip because Samsung is reportedly reverting to glass shells for all Galaxy S22 phones.

Ice Universe doesn’t specify it, but if the past trends are anything to go by, you can expect the Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and back of these new Samsung Galaxy mobile phones. However, the glass shield isn’t the only component Corning supplies to the Korean phone maker.

The Samsung x Corning partnership extends to the ‘Super Clear Glass’ on the S22 Ultra camera. This so-called Super Clear Glass was first pointed out in a leaked marketing infographic. It’s meant to reduce glare, ghosting, and distortion in imaging. We’ll find out more when the Galaxy S22 series debuts on February 8.
