Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Selfie-cam Demoted from 40MP to 12MP; S23 Series Launch Delayed

Samsung Galaxy S23 ULTRA next year will likely be all about cameras. However, it might have joined the race late. For a while, the industrial trend had shifted toward installing the beefiest camera modules on flagship phones; case in point, the 200MP Samsung ISOCELL unit on Infinix Zero Ultra and MI 12T Pro. But, the introduction of high-quality 50MP GN1 and Sony IMX sensors have since made the trend obsolete.

While all other OEMs are gunning for triple and quadruple 50MP sensors for their flagship nowadays (Vivo X90 Line, MI 13 line), Samsung will be rolling out its first-ever 200MP sensor in the Galaxy S23 ULTRA. We are all excited to witness Samsung’s vision of 200MP image quality. But that’s not all, folks.

The Korean giant is allegedly planning to recast the 40MP selfie unit from S23 Ultra’s precursor to favor a 12MP sensor. In the tech community, numbers are everything, and less is, more often than not, unappealing. Some might frown upon the change; some will embrace it.

In Samsung’s defense, the higher-quality selfie cams in the Samsung price catalog often have a jarring effect on people. High-res images evincing skin blemishes and imperfections are a genuine concern in the community, inducing user discomfort and skin consciousness. If that’s the case, a 12MP front camera is justifiable.

In another surprising reveal, the Galaxy S23 lineup gets the February-expected launch delayed. In line with every year, fans were expecting S23s to land in the starting days of February at the Unpacked Event. But a concrete industry source recently Tweeted that the series will debut in late Feb 2023 over pricing concerns.

For reference, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra were introduced on February 9th and released on February 25th; the standard Samsung Galaxy S22 retail price in Pakistan starts at Rs. 233,000. The Unexpected stop in launch might lead the retail release to March 2023. However true that may be, we’ll have to wait for the chain’s word to confirm these suspicions.
