Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S24 series, featuring the Base, the Plus, and an Ultra variant. The Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ exteriors maintain the sleek look of their 2023 predecessors, but they now come with flatter side rails, adding a modern touch. The highlight, however, lies in the enhanced hardware and software upgrades.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S24 series boasts new chipsets for superior performance. In most markets, including Europe and India, the phones have an Exynos 2400 chip, a 4nm deca-core SoC. Meanwhile, in select regions like the USA, Canada, and China, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip takes the stage.
To efficiently deal with heat, Samsung has incorporated larger vapor chambers, 1.5x on the S24 and 1.6x on the S24 Plus, ensuring improved cooling during extensive usage. The new chips also enhance ray tracing performance, catering to the growing demand for high-quality mobile gaming.
The camera system on Samsung's latest flagship models includes a 12MP selfie camera and a triple camera setup on the rear. The AI-powered camera features, such as AI Edit Suggestions and Generative Edit, contribute to an advanced photography experience. Social media apps can now leverage Galaxy AI's camera system, integrating HDR to your clicks.
Display improvements are also a point of interest in the Galaxy S24 and S24+, offering brighter and larger screens. Instead of 6.1” and 6.6” panels, the duo secures 6.2” and 6.7” 2X AMOLEDs. With a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, the adaptive refresh rate can go as low as 1Hz, a first for non-Ultra models. The batteries also differ in size due to the model discrepancy.
With the Galaxy S24, users get a 4,000mAh unit inside. Meanwhile, the S24 Plus carries a larger 4,900mAh one. Both support fast charging and wireless charging capabilities. The software experience is at the center of the hype. With the introduction of One UI 6.1, the phones offer AI-driven enhancements like Circle to search, Auto Summary, and Transcripts.
The promise of seven OS updates and seven years of security patches will help keep these devices relevant for a long time. Besides the ultimate software, the Galaxy S24 series also introduces a range of color options, including exclusive ones like Jade Green and Sandstone Orange.
Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are now open, with standard and online-exclusive colors available for prospective buyers. The devices will hit the retail market on January 26th. Converting from the announced Chinese pricing, the base S24 starts at ~$850 (~PKR 273,500), while the S24+ demands ~$1050 (~PKR 293,500) for the 12/256GB option.
