Samsung Galaxy S24 Receives a High-priority Security Fix with December 2024 Update

Samsung has deployed a critical update that Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra users might need to install as soon as it hits their devices. It’s part of the phone’s monthly security update and the December patch has now been spotted in multiple regions labeled by Samsung as high-priority.

This update has been doing rounds in Korea and some parts of the US for unlocked and locked T-Mobile variants of the S24 lineup. Soon, even Pakistani users will start receiving the patch on their Galaxy devices. Be warned that this update is not for devices with Samsung’s One UI 7 beta.

CVE-2024-49415 patch appears on the changelog with severity rated as critical. This might be Samsung’s response to a privately disclosed report where CVE-2024-49415 (Libsaped.so) unpatched allowed a remote attacker to execute malicious code on a Galaxy S24 device.

This vulnerability could allow a bad actor to gain full access to your device including sensitive and personal data, hence the severity rating. Samsung wants Galaxy S24 users to download and install the update quickly to counter this issue and make the device safer.

December 2024’s patch also has a fix for Snapdragon-affected phones that Google noted a while back, leading to exploits. After pixel devices, Samsung has also fixed the issue via the latest update. Installing this patch is simple and you only need to navigate to Settings>> Software Updates and tap ‘Download and install.’
