Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Camera is Surprising, but Falls Short of the Best

While the Samsung S25 Ultra might be the strongest link to the Galaxy S25 series, the S25 Edge is certainly the most surprising. The handset was brought along for a preview, but it might not be available in the market until April. And that is a long way to go. We thought the Edge branding had retired forever, but Samsung has repurposed it to initiate a new smartphone category for super thin handsets.

Samsung revealed nothing except its design at Unpacked, so we were left with very little information until yesterday’s leak. Galaxy S25 Edge’s camera details have been spilled. It’s not good news if you are a camera lover and were looking forward to the S25 Edge.

Leaks and reports before the Galaxy Unpacked claimed that the Slim Edition S25, now officially named Galaxy S25 Edge, had a tri-camera setup. Sadly, no such claim panned out. At the event, Samsung confirmed, and we even saw in the live demo that the Galaxy S25 Edge only has two cameras.

The leak ville now reports that the new Samsung Edge mobile only has a main sensor and an ultrawide. There’s no telephoto between those two lenses. It’s concerning because you might not get a full flagship experience with the Edge, and hence, we face the first drawback of its ultra-thin 6.4mm design.

Rumors also point out that the primary sensor is a 200 MP resolution unit, the same as the S25 Ultra. A 50 MP or a 12 MP ultrawide might also tag along, completing the rear dual lens setup. Its third camera will be in the front, possibly with a 12 MP selfie shooter in the usual punch-hole cutout.

Because the S25 Edge is flagship-grade, it does 4K/60 FPS recording on all sensors and 4K/120 or 8K/30 FPS from the 200 MP Main sensor. This is familiar territory, and all the S25 phones have the same video quality. It’s because they have the same chipset platform as well.

From what we hear in the leak media, the S25 Edge, like others in the lineup, also uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite. But, Samsung might have given it a 7-core underclocked version of the chip instead of an 8-core (for Galaxy) Edition. The same cutdown chip will probably arrive in Galaxy Z Fold 7. That’s another caveat of the thin form factor on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. We wait for Samsung to add more context to this story. Until then, stay tuned for more news.
