Samsung Galaxy devices in the flagship category already have wireless 15W charging though it is a forgotten standard. The other brands have gone way past that threshold for wireless solutions. These handsets have always used the Qi wireless standard but it had one major flaw that was never addressed.
Magnetic coils on the charging puck and the phone’s back always need a perfect alignment for Samsung’s Qi wireless tech to work, but Apple crafted a fix for this problem ages ago. The MagSafe on iPhones has magnets that align the wireless charging coils for you.
They are finally catching up. A new report by Jukanlosreve on X says that Samsung will use Qi2 wireless charging for the S25 series, and this tech is as close as you get to Apple’s MagSafe. The Qi2 standard debuted last year and is meant to replace the old Qi1 wireless charging.
Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has built the Qi2 wireless charging technology around Magnetic Power Profiles (almost similar to the tech Apple uses for MagSafe). Qi 2 should help you align the coils perfectly when you use a wireless charger and, as a bonus perk, this will also better its efficiency.
There’s no denying the possibility that the new phones might still combine this new Qi2 magnetic wireless solution with the old 15W input without upgrading the wireless speeds. 50W wireless charging is quickly becoming the new standard among Chinese brands. Some even have magnetic solutions. Still, Samsung's adoption of Qi2 could open doors to more possibilities.
