Samsung Galaxy Z Flip First Hands-on video Leaks Online, Shows Off the Foldable Display

Thanks to a handful of leaks in the past few weeks, we’ve got a reasonably good idea of what Samsung’s first clamshell smartphone has to offer. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip has also recently been spotted in a hands-on testing video. The leak originates from a Twitter account, that showcased the purple variant of the next-gen Galaxy Fold in all its glory.

Ben Geskin published the 19-second long video, in which the Galaxy Z can be seen flipped open and closed once, showing off a design in line with the renders previously leaked. And since the official release is scheduled for February 11,  which is roughly a week away, the video appears to be authentic.

If you’ve already been following the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip story, there’s nothing new under the sun. You’re looking at the same polished glass design with a horizontally stacked twin-camera and a secondary display that shows you the time, date, battery status, and probably notifications.

When it’s flipped open, you get an AMOLED Infinity-O display that produces a 2636 x 1080 resolution and a 22:9 aspect ratio. This primary display of Galaxy Z Flip measures 6.7 inches, while the one mentioned above is significantly smaller, maxing out at only 1.06 inches. The former also embeds an in-display fingerprint reader under it (also visible in the video towards the very end.)

What the earlier renders didn’t give us a detailed look at, was the (very prominent) hinge. You can make out the gaps in the hinge mechanism -- a form factor eerily similar to that of last year’s Motorola Razr -- which acts as a dust and debris magnet.

To protect the screen from damage, Samsung is taking a fresh approach with its ‘Ultra Thin Glass.’ Samsung will also be optimizing the Android-10-based OneUI 2.0 to take advantage of the Samsung Z Flip’s unique design, as will a handful of third-party apps like Instagram.

Reportedly, the Galaxy Z Flip is to retail for $1400 in the U.S. and just south of €1500 in Europe. While the sky-high Samsung price tag remains to be officially confirmed, it does make the Z Flip appreciably cheaper than the original Galaxy Fold.
