We’re still almost two weeks away from the official Samsung Galaxy S20 launch event where the next-gen Samsung Z Flip will be making its debut. But ahead of this release, we’ve got a look at the in-depth spec sheet, the press renders, and pricing details for the first clamshell smartphone by Samsung.
Courtesy of a report by Winfuture.de, the Galaxy Z Flip, bearing the codename Galaxy Bloom features the familiar ‘glass slab’ design with the rear shell and the front panel sandwiched between a layer of Gorilla Glass 6.
Flip the new galaxy z open, and you’re looking at a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display that touts a punch-hole in the center and produces an FHD+ resolution.
Fold it close, and you get a dual-camera mounted on the back, as well as a secondary (albeit much smaller) display. The hinge mechanism looks almost the same as the Samsung Galaxy Fold with a thick "butt". Apart from that, it seems like the sideways shot is intentionally missing so we just can't check whether it folds flush.
The second display measures 1.06 inches and it’s also a Super AMOLED panel that makes do with a 300x116 resolution. Primarily, this display is meant for peeking at the notifications or battery status. But some reports even suggest that it lets you capture selfies using the twin-camera setup.
Speaking of which, the twin cameras are both 12-megapixel lenses -- one being a 123-degree ultrawide angle sensor. The optics package features Optical Image Stabilization and 40K video recording at 60 FPS. For snapping selfies, the phone sports a 10-megapixel module at a sky-high Samsung Price tag.
The internals remain much more robust than expected (especially considering the Galaxy Flip’s chief competition, last year’s Motorola Razr). At the heart of the device, sits a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, rounded off by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage. Notably, though, the battery capacity could be a hair better since you only get a 3,300 mAh power cell but it does support 15W wired fast-charging and 9W wireless charging.
The hardware is powered by an Android-10-based One UI 2.0, but more to the point, the OS (as well as some third-party apps) is optimized to take advantage of the phone’s unique form factor.
It's too early to say if The Galaxy Z Flip will make it to Pakistan or not but it will be retailing internationally for roughly $1652 or 255,000 Pakistani rupees without taxes and it will hit the global store shelves by February 14.
