Galaxy Unpacked is over and wrapped up. And there are now two more folding phones for the world to see: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. It was the high point of their event. It’s a new build, not just a refined design of an older version. Z Fold 6 is boxy with more pointy corners, sure. But that helped it finetune the aspect ratio of the outer screen. 239g weight is light, but that 12.1mm (folded) thickness might need some getting used to.
Armor aluminum build and an IP48 rating are here for the first time. 6.3” is the size of that outer AMOLED. Then inside, you’ll see a 7.6” panel with the same tech. AMOLED 2X, dynamic LTPO, and 120Hz refresh rate with all the bells and whistles. Both have Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is pulling the wagon here, and it’s the ultimate SoC for the Android platform. 12 GB RAM helps, and the Fold goes as high as 1 TB for storage. The promised 7-years of OS support is staggering. It can’t get any better than this. There are compromises on the power side, though.
25W is all you get as fast charging to top up that 4400mAh battery. And it managed a 3x 10 MP telephoto on the back without much protrusion, so that’s a plus. 50 MP first camera, 12 MP ultrawide, 4 MP inner selfie, and a 10MP outer selfie unit make up for the rest of its imaging ability. But Z Fold 6 won’t come cheap at a starter price of $1,899 (~PKR 528,000).
We need to talk about its upgrades first. They upped the base RAM from 8 to 12 GB. They added 300mAh more to the battery, and it is now 4000mAh. But the charging speed is the same old 25W input. Dual rail hinge structure, Armor Aluminum, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 meld together for a more durable build.
The best upgrade you’ll find here is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. A boost to the performance was a given, but that SoC gave them the confidence to promise 7-year-long OS support. Dynamic AMOLED 6.7” inner folding screen is the prime attraction. It does 120Hz and 1080p resolution. Then there’s one outer 3.4” AMOLED at 720p and 60Hz.
The upper half of the phone is entirely black. There are minor accents around the lenses, but that design favors a screen out back. Cameras, of course, are better than last time. 50 MP first camera and 12 MP ultrawide.
That 10 MP selfie unit is the same, though. Like the Fold 6, Android 14 x One UI 6.1.1 pieces everything together for the Z Flip 6. And what of the price, you may be thinking. Well, this one starts at $1099 (~PKR 305,000).
