For better or for worse, Samsung has reinitiated its forgotten tradition to make its devices slimmer. This trend was sunset when the first Galaxy Ultra came to the scene, but lately, we’ve been noticing Samsung making strides in that area again; case in point, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Fold Special Edition. Now, we hear rumors that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is even slimmer, but it has its own set of problems.
The rumor mill has been relentlessly following every move the Galaxy Z Fold 7 makes, and a leaker recently found that the S pen will lack features on the Fold 7. That’s a sacrifice Samsung needs to make, building the thinnest folding device in the company’s record.
It wasn’t made clear in the leak what the S pen will lose feature-wise, but it did trigger some alarms in the community. The Z Fold lineup already has no dedicated slot to hold the S-Pen. You have to buy a specific case to holster this accessory onto the phone. It’s going to get even worse if the leak pans out.
We’ll wait for more sources to corroborate the story and clarify what this leak means. Still, you can be sure that Samsung is doing everything in its power to lose a few millimeters from Z Fold 7’s chassis. As Samsung phones price often reflects their cutting-edge technology, the company has already put its feet in the race for slimness by making a Z Fold Special Edition and teasing a Galaxy 25 Edge.
The Z Fold SE was only released in China and Korea, which sets a perfect benchmark for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Those markets proved there is a demand for slim folding devices, and now, the next Galaxy Fold series will bring the same thickness to non-SE models.
The Special Edition only measured 4.9mm when unfolded, and the leaks advise Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be even slimmer. As you might have experienced already, the Galaxy S25 Ultra lost the S pen Bluetooth functionality to get from 8.6mm to 8.2mm profile. The Fold 7 seems to follow a similar narrative, but since it won’t have a dedicated holster for the S pen, the possible downgrade remains a mystery. We’ll keep an eye out for more leaks on the subject for more context. So stay tuned.
