No doubt, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series camera performance is the main highlight of the entire catalog. The manufacturer has been boasting it in the teasers, emphasizing it with slogans like "stunning night photos are coming sooon," "megapixels that'll make you say wooow," and so on.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is likely the ultimate phone for photography in the catalog. It holds a 200MP primary shooter, and Samsung officially introduced the sensor via press release yesterday. The sensor variant is ISOCELL HP2, and its specialty is a diagonal size of 1/1.3" featuring a 0.6μm pixel array.
Color reproduction and dynamic range on the sensor will mark a significant improvement over its previous iterations. Simply put, this could be the chain's best camera sensor yet.
With Samsung new S model's Tetra2pixel technology, HP2 is capable of binning four pixels into one 1.2μm pixel in low-light environments at 50MP, or it can do 2.4μm giving an image of 12.5MP when using 16-to-1 binning. It will shoot videos at 8K 30FPS with 4-to-1 binning using 50MP resolution.
With its default 200MP resolution, the HP2 can do 15fps bursts, which is twice the speed of ISOCELL HP3 and 50% more improved than the 100MP HM3 sensor. Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology from Samsung enhances color reproduction and reduces overexposure, suppressing blown-out colors under bright light sources. While 200MP sensors are roaming the earth under phones like the Motorola 30 Edge Ultra and the Xiaomi 12T Pro, ISOCELL HP2 is a special treat Samsung reserved for Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The Ultra will pair the alpha 200MP sensor with 3x and 10x telephoto and periscope sensors, just like last time. 12MP Wide-angle and 12MP selfie shooter will also be there.
