Samsung's Latest Display Technology Will Blow Your Mind - It Folds AND Slides!

It is no secret that Samsung is a leader in innovation, and they prove it every year in a visit to Consumers Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. In the same vein as last year, 2023's event was full of Samsung's commercial and conceptual products. There, the Korean manufacturer showcased a unique foldable prototype dubbed Flex Hybrid; Have a look.

Unlike the recent Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Fold 4, the new prototype is a hybrid of foldable and rollable displays, likely the most impressive Samsung innovation thus far. SamMobile, a renewed Samsung analyst, posted a tweet showcasing the new concept in a video.

Flex Hybrid combines Samsung's typical folding display (Galaxy Z Fold, Z Flip) with a rollable screen that slides out of the chassis when needed. While this is a concept rather than something we will see as an actual retail piece anytime soon, it is still extremely cool.

Multiple simple use-case scenarios guide the design of Samsung's latest fold model. Let's say you are watching something on Youtube and want to scroll away at comments and recommended videos. Instead of interrupting the playback, the inward sliding screen will roll out and show you the description, comments, and recommendations.

The mini display inside the shell can also work with strictly vertical apps like Instagram, Facebook, etc., for multitasking. At this point, it doesn't appear that Samsung will be selling the prototype in stores anytime soon. On the contrary, if it officially pops out, it will target tablet and foldable consumer markets.

In addition to the prototype, Samsung made the Galaxy A14 5G official at the same event. It's also the first device to flaunt Samsung's new-made Exynos 1330 SoC, with a 2.4GHz boost clock. Its screen is massive, with an FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. See Samsung Galaxy 14 5G price and full specs here.
