Tecno Camon 40 Pro has been deployed in Pakistan for retail, after a long pre-order window. This new product completely revamps the design using a vertical stack of lenses, instead of last year’s circular rear dial to support the cameras. It’s a great device in its own right, but if you put it against last year’s Camon 30 Pro, things start to fall apart.
Tecno didn’t release a 4G LTE variant for the Camon 30 Pro last year. They instead announced a Camon 30S Pro 4G to fill the gap. As a 5G only variant, the 30 Pro was welcomed into an entirely different, upper midrange segment with a Mediatek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate (4nm) SoC, 70W charging, and a 144Hz AMOLED.
It wouldn’t be fair to put the Camon 40 Pro 4G against the 30 Pro 5G from last year, so from here on out, we’ll consider this device a replacement for the Tecno Camon 30S Pro. With that in mind, the newcomer’s price tag and specs start to make sense here.
The Tecno Camon new model upgrades thze battery to a 5200mAh cell but keeps the same 45W wired charging speed. There is no wireless charging support on the Camon 40 Pro. The new handset is even thinner this year, at only a 7.3mm profile, and the design has been upgraded to support an IP68/IP69 rating. It’s dust-tight and waterproof.
The curved screen you see on the front is an AMOLED 6.78” panel with a fair ~90% screen-to-bezel ratio, not to forget its 1080p FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz peak refresh rate. Even though it’s the same display technology as last year, the curved AMOLED still gives the Camon 40 Pro a premium look.
This display has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i to keep it safe from scratches and scuffs. It boots to an Android 15 HiOS 15 system as default, and Tecno also promised 3 years of OS updates. It’s fair to say that the Camon 40 Pro is built to last.
It can do 50 MP selfies from that punch-hole crop on the screen, and we see a 50 MP OIS sensor on the back for high-res shots. This device even has a rear 8 MP ultrawide shooter for assistance. Because Tecno put a Helio G100 Ultimate SoC inside it, the user experience and performance will be serviceable. The Camon 40 Pro is priced at Rs 65,999 in Pakistan for an 8/256GB variant.
