Meet the Phantom Ultimate 2: Tecno's First Tri-fold Concept is the Slimmest so Far

Tecno has a new concept fold that will drop your jaws to the floor. They call it Phantom Ultimate 2. It seems like a product that could go commercial, but Tecno only showed it off strictly as a concept in a trailer. We see a wide panel that can fold three ways in that video.

After Tecno experimented with the Phantom Ultimate rollable fold concept, we can tell they are making great strides in this area. Those current two-way foldables are okay but a long way from perfection. The idea is to have more real estate for usage but at the same size as a bar phone.

There’s a max 8” panel current retail Folds carry. But Phantom Ultimate 2 takes it to 10 inches — a perfect replacement for a tablet that fits in the pocket when you Fold it. This concept is wild how it expands from a 6.48” slab to a full 10” tablet at a 4:3 aspect ratio and 2k resolution.

They say TDDI tech has placed touch and display drivers on the same chip here. That panel also has a digitizer, so it works with a stylus. And they say its thickness is only 11mm. Then we have proprietary hinges, two of them, under Tecno's latest folding phone

Tecno says these hinges can stand over 300,000 folds back and forth. So it’s extremely durable by today’s standards. They couldn’t have made this fold 11mm thin if they didn’t make a 0.25mm backplate.

There are multiple use cases this beast of a phone can help with. You can open three apps at the same time. But they won’t be as crammed as dual Folds. Then, we have the tent position you can see in the image. The most useful could be the laptop stand pose.
