Tecno Pop 9 is a new super affordable phone that the brand came up with after receiving a great response for its Spark Go 1 handset. Pop 9 is already available in Africa but uses a Unisoc T615 chip. It has launched in India now with the chipset replaced, and it will deploy in more regions soon enough.
It offers great value for a surprisingly low price, and that’s the first reason for its hype. We see a big 6.67” IPS screen on the front with a dynamic punch hole you can interact with. Of course, it’s also home to a selfie camera with 8 MP resolution, and the screen’s pixel count is 720 x 1612p.
For several other international markets, Pop 9 has a 120Hz screen, but they used a 90Hz panel in this particular handset. The reason could be a low-potency Helio G50 SoC, but the rest of the specs are the same on each variant. Take the design and camera setup for example.
They used an iPhone-esque camera zone to fit two individual lenses in a diagonal format in a squircle topography. One lens has a 13MP camera inside it and the other is decorative. The internals of the new Tecno Pop model may not be groundbreaking, but a design like this will be impossible to find at the price.
It runs a Helio G50 chip, which could spell the end for an old Helio G36. It has a PowerVR GPU and a 2.2GHz clock speed. This new Tecno Pop 9 has 3 GB RAM but it’s virtually expandable by another 3 GB. Also, this phone will give users a 5000mAh battery, IR remote, and IP54 rating. Pop 9 4G’s official cost is around $80 (~PKR 22,000) for a 3/64GB option.
