Vivo’s S1 series welcomes a new mid-range member, the Vivo S1 Prime, which the Chinese phone maker announced today. It shares its one-of-a-kind design language with its predecessors, not to mention a photography-focused, high-performance build. Here’s everything you need to know.

The highlight of the Vivo S1 Prime edition, much like the ‘Pro’ and standard models, is the diamond-style camera housing — encrusted in a polished surface with a mesmerizing gradient paint job.

The camera island has three cameras arranged in the corners and one in the center with a bright blue-accented line running along the radius. Vivo has chamfered the edges of S1 prime, rounded the corners of the shell which comes in Nebula Blue and Jade Black.

On the other side, there’s a 6.38” AMOLED screen that produces an FHD+ resolution and a 90% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to the circular notch chiseled into Vivo S1 Prime. The bezels are minimal all around, and this minimalist design is rounded off by the hidden in-display fingerprint scanner. Value addition to the Vivo price list indeed! Your notification, time, and weather details are conveniently accessible, thanks to its always-on display.

Expect decent performance out of the quad-camera powered by a 48MP primary module, combined with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor (that extends its FoV by 120 degrees), and a pair of 2MP depth and macro lenses. Shoot videos with the ‘Ultra Steady’ Vivo mode to make use of S1 Prime’s EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). When capturing shots in low-light, toggle the ‘Super Night’ mode on for crisp, bright photos. The 16MP front camera of Vivo S1 Pro is augmented with ‘AI Face Beauty’ and ‘Posture’ control.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 platform handles processing for the S1 Prime by Vivo, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage — expandable with a microSD card up to 256GB. For a more immersive gaming experience, Vivo Prime has Multi-Turbo mode, Voice Changer, and Game Center. The battery capacity is rated 4,500 mAh, quickly recharged with Vivo’s dual-engine charging technology over a Type-C port.

However, it boots to the previous-gen Funtouch OS 9.2 (based on Android 9) out of the box. The Vivo S1 Prime starts from $285 (roughly 48,000 PKR).
